Sheena and I put our brains together and figured this one out pretty quickly. And kinda hoped we were wrong. We were not wrong. I will say, the stuff that goes down at the end of the movie is pretty awesome and fun to watch, but overall the movie is just kinda silly. I don’t recommend it, but if you watch it, let’s talk about it.

I dug it. It’s full of stuff that you’ve seen before, but maybe not in this specific mashup. And it works. The action/fight scenes are pretty great, and I really liked the style of it. On Netflix. Check it out.

This was surprisingly better than I expected. It’s not great, but it is good. I thought it would be dumb, but it’s more unique and interesting than silly. The acting is rough, and there are parts that just don’t work, but overall it was a fun watch.

Prisoners of the Ghostland

Man, I wanted this to be awesome. It just wasn’t. It looks super cool. The mixing of samurai and western is cool. Nicholas Cage is nutballs Nicholas Cage in this. There are some wild scenes. But overall it’s just kinda boring. Not a lot happens. There’s way too much weirdness and not a lot of story. I dunno, I was let down.

Candyman (1992)

I’d never seen this movie. We wanted to watch the new one, so we thought we might should watch this first. I’m glad we did. I’m not a huge horror fan. At least not the super gory, jump scare, lacking in real plot horror movies. This had a pretty legitimately interesting story. I was genuinely interested in what was going on. And watching it first definitely made watching the new one better.

Candyman (2021)

This is a cool movie. It works fine as a stand-alone (they do a good job of catching you up on what happens in the original), but I think seeing the original first really made this a fun watch. The visuals and effects are obviously better in this one. They do some really cool stuff with the murder scenes. The acting is pretty great, and the story builds really well off of the first one. It’s not perfect by any means, but, again, as a “horror” movie, I really enjoyed it.
