Eighth Grade

I thought this movie was fine. It’s a nice glimpse/reminder of what it’s like to be in such an awkward stage of life. I’d heard this movie being praised over and over again, and while there are some really great moments, it’s not really one of those life-changing movies, to me. The thing that really needs to be praised here is Elsie Fisher. She was fantastic. I look forward to seeing what she does in the future. Also, my absolute favorite parts of the movie were the ones that included Jake Ryan. He was seriously hilarious. I would’ve loved to see more of him. Worth seeing for the performances by these kids.

Ant-Man and the Wasp

Don’t get me wrong, this was a fun movie, but it mostly just felt like a gimmicky reason to show the “technology” (cgi) of changing the sizes of things. So, visually, it’s really cool, but there isn’t a ton of substance. Except for Michael Pena. Anytime he’s on screen is gold. So, fun? Yes. Great new installment to the Marvel Universe? Meh.

Incredibles 2

Incredible! No, seriously, I loved it. It’s just an all-around great movie. Comedy, drama, action… and it’s surprisingly grown-up for a Disney/Pixar movie. Like you’re not going to watch it.

Sorry To Bother You

Man, I really wanted to like this movie. I didn’t. It starts off decent, but never quite gets to the level of quirkiness I was hoping for… then it just gets weird. Very, very weird.

Under the Skin

I had no idea what this movie was about. I’m still not sure I do. But I dug it. It’s slow, and creepy, and weird. It’s not for most people, but I had a good time trying to figure out what exactly I was seeing.

This is a legitimately good horror movie. The non-linear storytelling makes it cool and unique. It’s not going to knock your socks off, but I was pleasantly surprised.
