Beasts of the Southern Wild

Like this movie or not, you can’t deny how awesome newcomers Quvenzhane Wallis and Dwight Henry were/are. I mean, amazing. I loved that the cast was all unknowns. It made it that much easier to get lost in the story. It’s one of those movies that I wasn’t completely satisfied with while leaving the theater, but the more I’ve thought about it, the more I like it. It’s not exactly what I expected, although I’m not really sure what I expected. It’s not the happiest story, but there’s a lot of redemption in it.

The Hunter

I really liked this. It’s slow and deliberate. The scenery is beautiful. It feels like it’s should be boring, but it’s not. The acting is excellent and the ending is great. Not for everyone, but good stuff.

The Tall Man

After having some time to sit with this one, I think I really liked it. It’s very weird and confusing. The whole time Sheena and I were like… “wait, what’s going on now?” But in the end, the fact that it kept us guessing was kind of cool, even though it was more frustrating and annoying at the time. Jessica Biel was actually really good in this, too. The movie isn’t very realistic, but if you can look past that, it’s a pretty unique and original story. And it’s not a horror movie at all, like apparently some people seem to think. Worth checking out.
