Super 8

I’ll be honest, this movie isn’t perfect, there are lots of pieces that are obviously “homages” (rip-offs) of Spielberg movies, and a bunch of the stuff that happens just isn’t realistic/explained, but I loved every minute of it. It’s one of those movies that you can’t help but like, so you just forgive anything that might normally take you out of a less genuine movie. There is a lot of emotion that really brings you into the story, and the classic style and feel just make this such a fun movie. The kids did a superb job, and “Coach Taylor” is always awesome. If you can, definitely see this one in the theater.

Paul

From the guys who brought us Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz. And like those movies pay homage, hilariously, to zombie/cop movies, this movie celebrates the sci-fi/alien genre. It’s not quite up to par with the other two films, but it’s definitely got it’s moments, some of which are hilarious. The cast is seriously amazing. There are so many great actors in this movie. And Kristen Wiig is so freakin’ funny. There are a lot of subtle nods to some of the great sci-fi movies, which were fun to pick out. If you like what Simon Pegg and Nick Frost do, or really enjoy comedy/the sci-fi genre, you’ll like this movie, guaranteed.

Hall Pass

I never really cared to see this movie, but we decided to check it out the other night. I will say that the cast is pretty great, and there are a few really funny parts, but that’s about it. It’s a pretty stupid plot, and a lot of the jokes fall flat. There’s really not much more to say. Worth watching if you can’t find anything better to watch.

Conan O’Brien Can’t Stop

I love Conan O’Brien. After this movie, I love him that much more. It’s an amazing behind-the-scenes documentary about his time and tour after being fired from The Tonight Show. It’s very raw and personal, and I’m so glad it was made. Conan’s always seemed like a down-to-earth, legit guy, and this movie just proves that over and over. And dang, he seriously can’t stop.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part. 2

I’m not a huge Harry Potter fan, as far as Harry Potter fans go. I haven’t read any of the books. I’ve seen all the movies, but only once a piece, I think. And I have to say, this movie was awesome: visually, plot-wise, acting, and on and on. And after seeing this movie, it makes all the rest of them that much better. So much is told and tied together in here, it’s amazing. I definitely want to go back and re-watch the whole series now. Brilliant.

X-Men: First Class

This was a good movie for a dollar theater Saturday afternoon. I liked seeing how a few of the characters met and came to be. Overall, the movie was kind of cheesy, but the cast was pretty great and the story was cool. I really like the first two X-Men movies, and although this one isn’t near as good as either of those, it’s a nice addition to the series.
