The King’s Speech

I don’t have much to say about this movie, other than I thought it was great. The acting, of course, was superb. It’s pretty slow moving, but with this sort of movie, that’s to be expected and not at all a bad thing. It was also much funnier than I expected. One of the best of 2010. Definitely a movie I’d recommend to most anyone. See if if you get a chance.

True Grit

Finally the Coen Brothers have put out a movie I love. They used to have with with every movie they released, but they pretty much lost me through the 2000’s (after O Brother, Where Art Thou?).  But they’re back, in my book. This movie had a lot of classic Coen trademarks: excellent/deliberate dialogue, very subtle (hilarious) humor, beautiful soundtrack, etc. The little girl who played Mattie (Hailee Steinfeld) was nothing short of amazing, holding her own with Jeff Bridges and Matt Damon, who both completely nailed their roles. This is now one of my favorite movies of 2010. Easily in the top 5. I can’t wait to see it again.

Megamind

Just to be honest, this movie was really good, but after watching the two above, it was impossible to really impress me. The plot was a mix of mild Superman spoof meets a completely unique superhero story, which was new, and a lot of fun. The casting and humor of this movie were both great. It’s definitely worth checking out. Not perfect, but clever and funny with a nice bit of heart.
