127 Hours

Going into this movie, I was pretty sure I was going to like it. But when he got trapped pretty early into the movie, I lost a little of my optimism. I pictured something like World Trade Center and imagined things were going to start getting pretty boring. Luckily, I was wrong. Danny Boyle stuck to his music video-like edits and kept the energy up in scenes where things could’ve easily dragged. This movie does a great job of getting into the head of Aron Ralston. You feel trapped with him. You feel his loneliness and regret and, at times, his pain. The scene most people are kind of waiting for (I won’t give it away in case you somehow don’t know) is brutal. I kept having to turn away. I might have seen 50% of it. Maybe. The music and acting (James Franco!) and editing and suspense and intensity in this movie is all excellent. Definitely hard to watch, but definitely worth seeing.

I’m pretty hopeful I’ll get a chance to catch this before it’s out of theatres completely
